Google’s ’sandbox’ and the time delay in pagerank.

Perhaps the most discouraging thing i learned while preparing to launch this blog plus my other websites was the existence of a time factor in Google’s pagerank. i.e. sites that have been up for a number of years and visited many times by the googlebot get a higher ranking than new sites with similar keyword relevance and inbound links. Obviously this is not good news for anyone planning to start a new site on the web, particularly if they plan to derive most of their traffic from search engines.

From what i’ve read about this interesting google phenomena, sites which appear to have a natural growth story (i.e. slowly accumulate inbound links and add content progressively and consistently) will build a good reputation with google. Sites which suddenly have thousands of pages or suddenly have thousands of inbound links will be penalized or sandboxed…
